Bengal Cat: Coats for Every Desire

Between the colors and patterns, all more different from each other, it is sometimes difficult to make a choice. The Bengal comes in three “official” colors (Brown, Silver, Snow) and three rare variations (Blue, Charcoal, Melanistic). Discover each of these coats in detail to help you choose your future companion with a unique look.

1. Brown

The Brown Bengal is undoubtedly the most iconic: warm coat, contrasting spots from golden orange to tawny gray, red nose, and black tail tip. It was the first color recognized in the 1980s by TICA (The International Cat Association). Its eyes can vary from hazel to green, brown, or golden. Bengal enthusiasts appreciate its “classic” and bright appearance, often considered the reference coat.

2. Snow

The Snow Bengal is not all white: it exists in three variants – Seal Mink, Seal Lynx, and Seal Sepia – identifiable by the shade of their eyes. The Seal Mink displays turquoise or blue-green eyes on an ivory coat, the Seal Sepia has green to golden eyes on a cream fur, and the Seal Lynx has deep blue eyes on a cooler background. This light, almost pastel palette contrasts beautifully with the “spotted” or “marbled” patterns.

3. Blue

Rare and striking, the Blue Bengal features a “powdery blue-gray” coat dotted with cream patterns. Its metallic spots range from silver gray to dark blue, and its eyes can be green, golden, or hazel. This delicate color gives the Bengal a discreet, almost ethereal elegance.

4. Silver

The Silver strongly contrasts: an almost white coat, anthracite gray to jet black patterns, brick red nose, and dark tail tip. Green or golden eyes shine on this bright canvas. It is one of the most sought-after coats for its “snow leopard” effect.

5. Charcoal

The Charcoal Bengal shows a dark shade, a mix of gray and dark brown, with deeply marked spots. Some individuals have an intensely dark inverted “Y” mask on the face, reminiscent of a mystical symbol. This coat evokes the power and mystery of a miniature panther.

6. Melanistic

A true miniature panther, the Melanistic Bengal is entirely black, its “ghost” patterns only revealed in daylight. Its pigmentation density offers a “living shadow” effect, where only connoisseurs distinguish the underlying marks. It is the rarest and most spectacular coat.
